WALTER P. BAREK

Walter Paul Barek, 79, of the 1300 block of Carlton Court, died Nov. 16, 1995, in his home.

He was a retired rosarian for the Botanical Gardens where he worked for 16 years. He was also retired from the Navy as a commissioned warrant officer 2 after 26 years. He was a native of Fall River, Mass., and was a Catholic. Mr. Barek was a member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of Retired Officers Association, National Retired Officers Association, Fleet Reserve Association, Tidewater Rose Society, American Rose Society, Knights of Columbus Council (NU)3548, Alhambra, Men's Garden Club of Tidewater, and the Navy Memorial Foundation. He was a veteran of World War II and received numerous medals including the World War II Victory Medal, the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal with Silver Star.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 1/2, Doris L. Barek; two sisters, Stella Pastic of Casselberry, Fla., Julia Beben of Fall River; brother, John Barek of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday with military honors by Father Edward L. Richardson in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
