Donald Arthur Best, 61, of Ericsson St., died Nov. 17, 1995.
He was a native of Ashtabula, Ohio. He was currently employed as a master electrician at George Sharp Co. and was retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. He was also retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a Presbyterian and was Commander of VFW Post 993, Knights of Pythias, Fleet Reserve (NU)40. Mr. Best was a Navy veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He is survived by his wife, Florence M. Best; mother, Margaret R. Best of Portsmouth; two daughters, Debra Mustee of Fort Myers, Fla., and Cynthia Proctor of Conway, S.C.; sister, Lillian Grupp of Burlington, Iowa; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Cradock Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Richard W. Lovingood. The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. followed by VFW services at 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to VFW Post 993, or Cradock Presbyterian Church in memory of Cmdr. Donald Best.
