Despite the federal government shut down, duck and snow geese hunting season will open as scheduled at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore on Monday.
From a half-hour before sunrise on Monday through sunset Nov. 25, hunters will be allowed to shoot a maximum of five ducks per day on the Outer Banks. Duck-hunting season will reopen Dec. 11 and last through Jan. 20. Each day, hunters are allowed to keep a maximum of one hen mallard; two wood ducks; two red heads; one canvas back; and one pin tail.
Snow geese season runs from Monday through March 5, with hunters limited to a maximum of five birds per day.
``Reservations for Bodie Island duck blinds will still be honored,'' National Park Service Ranger Mike Anderson said Friday. ``We'll keep enough law enforcement personnel on duty to open this duck season as planned.''
All of the Bodie Island blinds already have been reserved for this hunting season, Anderson said.
Hunters must have a North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission license and a federal and state duck stamp on that license to shoot birds at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Hunting licenses are available at Ace Hardware stores and area tackle and gun shops.
In addition, all of the beach ramps along the Cape Hatteras National Seashore are open to four-wheel-drive vehicles throughout the federal government shutdown. by CNB
