Windsor goes into its Group A Division 3 game against Rappahanock with the usual question - can the Dukes win a big game?
Windsor (8-2) has dominated the weaker teams on its schedule, but lost important games against conference rivals Sussex Central and Surry County - both ranked in the Group A top 10 at the time.
``We've just had trouble winning big games against real strong opponents,'' Windsor coach Tommy Austin said. ``Those two losses were against the two best teams we've played and we felt like we could've played better.''
The Dukes' run defense will be tested against the Raiders (6-4), who run on more than 80 percent of their plays.
``They line up and come after you,'' Austin said. ``They line up and try to beat your brains in with a power game.''
Windsor will try to use its own power game behind Wayne Briggs, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards two straight seasons. In the losses to Sussex Central and Surry, Briggs, who averages more than 175 yards per game, rushed for a total of just 101.
``Every week, we try to get the ball in Wayne's hands 25 times,'' Austin said. ``But we need (fullback David Bickley) to have a good game, to have that one-two punch. If we allow them to key on Wayne, we're in trouble.'' by CNB
