8 ECSU PLAYERS CHOSEN FOR ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

State University's football program capped off a successful 1995 season by having eight players named to the All-CIAA team.

Three members of the Vikings' football team were chosen for the All-CIAA first team.

They included:

linebacker Andrew Richardson, a senior from Smithfield;

center Travis Wright, a junior from Elizabeth City; and

defensive back Steven Carter, a sophomore from Smithfield, Va.

On the All-CIAA second team are:

running back Aaron Murchison, a junior from Fayetteville;

offensive tackle Herman Kemp, a senior from Mendenhall, Miss.;

linebacker Dameon Latta, a junior from Raleigh; and

defensive lineman Marcus Barber, a junior from Columbia.

Defensive lineman Sebastian French, a senior from Fayetteville, Va., was named as an honorable mention.

The Vikings finished the season at 7-4 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

A preseason coaches poll had the Vikings picked for fifth in the conference, but ECSU ended up tied for second place with Norfolk State.

A preseason prediction by head coach George Moody had the Vikings in contention for the top spot in the CIAA.

He was right.

The Vikings lost to Virginia State in what proved to be the CIAA title game.

``We want to end with at least three more wins than last year which would put us up for contention for the championship,'' he said before the season began.

``We came back with a lot of spirit this year and in shape. We're looking for good things.''

In three seasons at the helm of ECSU, Moody is 14-18. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
