CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - SUFFOLK

Suffolk City Council took the following actions at its meeting Wednesday:

PUBLIC HEARINGS

A. Rezoning Request RR11-95 (Conditional) for rezoning approximately 142 acres of land area from RR, Rural Residential to R-1, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) for residential development. Motion to Delay Approval, 5-2

B. Rezoning Request RR15-95 (Conditional) for rezoning approximately 73 acres of land area from R-1, Low-Medium Density Residential to R-2, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) and approximately 30 acres of land area from B-2, General Business to R-2, Low-Medium Density Residential (Conditional) for residential development. Motion to Deny, 3-4

C. Rezoning Request RR-21-94 to amend the previously approved Master Land Use Plan for the Hillpoint Farms Planned Development Housing District (PD-H) by shifting the location of the golf course, altering the internal loop road collector street and shifting residential densities. Motion to Send Back to Planning Commission, 7-0

D. Proposed amendments to Chapter 25 - Subdivision of Land, of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk, for the purpose of clarifying subdivision review procedures including the elimination of the Plat Review Committee. Approved, 7-0

E. Proposed street vacation request for a portion of the right of way for Bennett Avenue. Approved, 7-0

F. An ordinance amending Chapter 20 of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk, titled ``Police,'' to include Article II, False Alarms, Sections 20-6 - 20-13 - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0

G. An ordinance amending Chapter 11 of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk, titled ``Fire Protection,'' to include a new Article II, ``False Alarms'' - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0

ORDINANCES

A. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award in the amount of $5,000 from the U.S. Department of Justice under the ``Troops to Cops'' Grant Program - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0

B. An ordinance appropriating $31,600 from the General Fund Unappropriated Fund Balance for certain computer services - Second Reading. Approved, 7-0

C. An ordinance appropriating $117,167 from the General Fund Unappropriated Fund Balance to meet contractual obligations - First Reading. No vote on first reading

D. An ordinance amending Section 5-13, and repealing Section 5-59 and 5-71, of Chapter 5 titled ``Buildings,'' of the Code of Laws of the City of Suffolk. Approved, 7-0

E. An ordinance accepting and appropriating a grant award of $92,820 from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services for implementation of the Fifth Judicial District Community Corrections Program - First Reading. No vote on first reading

RESOLUTIONS

A. Resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant and service plan under the Virginia Community Crime Control Act for community based supervision of juveniles on probation. Approved, 7-0

B. Resolution of the Council of the City of Suffolk establishing by joint action of the Council of the City of Franklin and the Board of Supervisors of the County of Isle of Wight and County of Southampton, the Fifth Judicial District Community Corrections Program. Approved, 7-0

C. Resolution requesting the Virginia Department of Transportation to close the Broad Street Bridge temporarily for the purpose of replacing the bridge over the CSX Railroad with a new bridge. Approved, 7-0

D. Resolution authorizing the city manager to sign a cooperative agreement between the City of Suffolk and the cities of Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, to form the South Hampton Roads Disability Services Board. Approved, 7-0

MOTIONS

A. A motion to establish a public hearing on Dec. 20 for the 1995/96 Secondary Construction Budget. Approved, 7-0

B. A motion to ratify the request for an extension of Conditional Use Permit C29-94. Approved, 7-0
