WALTER JONES SR.

Rev. Walter Jones Sr., 86, of the 2800 block of Arcadia Ave., died Nov. 15, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center.

He was a retired pneumatic tool operator for Norfolk Naval Shipyard, where he worked for 34 years. He was a native of Sumter, S.C. Mr. Jones was a member, associate minister and former usher and Sunday school teacher of Twine Memorial Holy Temple Church, Portsmouth. He was also a member of the Twine Memorial Noon Day Prayer Band. Mr. Jones was a U.S. Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Bessie P. Jones; five daughters, Marion J. Richardson and Evelyn J. Webb, both of Portsmouth, Frances J. Harris and Andrea J. Battle, both of Virginia Beach, and Irene E. Jones of Norfolk; three sons, Melvin N. Jones of Lanham-Seabrook, Md., Air Force Master Sgt. John Wesley Jones of Valdosta, Ga., and Army Chief Warrant Officer 2 Raymond S. Jones of El Paso, Texas; 17 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter Jones Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday by Elder Benjamin Carmon in Twine Memorial Holy Temple Church. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday.
