Cecile Herndon Spessard, of Seven Islands Farm, departed this life Saturday, Nov. 18, 1995.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rutherford H. Spessard Jr.; three children, Rutherford H. Spessard III of Denver, Colo., Cecile H. Slagle of Virginia Beach, Michael H. Spessard of Arvonia; and four grandchildren.
Mrs. Spessard was born in Ehrhardt, S.C., and attended Winthrop College. After graduation she became a teacher. Upon marriage to Rutherford, they moved to Richmond, where Cecile was active in the Junior League, the Tuckahoe Woman's Club and First Presbyterian Church. At the time of her death, she was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Bremo Bluff.
There will be a gathering of friends at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Outshaw Ave., Richmond, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Hollywood Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Cecile's name to the VMI Foundation, Lexington, Va. 24450.
