CAREER TRACK

ACCOUNTING

Marla J. Bender was named an associate at the firm of Sullivan, Andrews & Taylor in Virginia Beach. She will practice in the area of auditing and general accounting services. She was with the accounting firm of Failes & Associates in Virginia Beach as an audit supervisor.

ENGINEERING

Jan M. Harris has formed Liberty Engineering in Virginia Beach to provide structural engineering consulting services. He will serve as president of the firm specializing in the design of commercial, industrial and waterfront facilities. He was previously employed by McPherson & Associates of Portsmouth and The CEGG Partnership of Virginia Beach.

HEALTH CARE

Patrick C. Devine Jr., a principal with the Norfolk law firm of Hofheimer, Nusbaum, McPhaul & Samuels, was elected vice chairman of the Health Law Section of the Virginia State Bar. He is also the editor of its quarterly publication, The Health Law News.

INSURANCE

Ann Kiley Crenshaw was promoted from title attorney to the position of branch counsel of the Southeastern Virginia branch office of the Lawyers Title Insurance Corp. in Norfolk. She will be responsible for supervising and providing legal support to the branch's residential underwriting department. Prior to joining the corporation, she was an associate with the Norfolk law firm of McGuire, Woods, Battle & Boothe.

ORGANIZATIONS

The Virginia Institute of Mortgage Brokers elected new officers for 1996. Jeff Moore was elected president; Steve Baugher, president-elect; and Terry Olsen, vice-president.

LAW

Richard Charles Grosenick was named an associate with the firm of Kaufman & Canoles in Newport News. He will specialize in creditors' rights and bankruptcy. Prior to this, he was of counsel at the treasurer's office in Arlington, Va.

MANUFACTURING

Mike Hagovsky was named manager of marketing administration at Stihl Inc. in Virginia Beach. He will be responsible for product and parts management, customer service, and branch operations for the chain saw and power equipment manufacturer.

MEDIA

Page Lea was named vice president of Landmark Communications Inc. in Norfolk. Lea, who has been director of business development since he joined the company in March, will focus on developing plans for the expansion of The Travel Channel into Japan and other parts of Asia. Prior to joining Landmark, he held a variety of positions with TeleCable Corp., which was sold to Tele-Communications Inc. earlier this year.

Also, Charlie Hill was named vice president of human resources for Landmark Communications. Formerly vice president of benefits administration, he will now oversee training and overall human resources strategic planning while continuing to be responsible for employment and benefits issues, policy and development. Previously, he was corporate director of benefits for North America with BASF Corp. in Parsippany, N.J.

RETAIL

Vernon Martell was named director of document imaging with Electronic Systems, Inc. in Virginia Beach. He will be responsible for the newly formed document imaging division. Prior to this, he was vice president of Taylor Document Management Co. Inc. in Norfolk.

PERSONNEL SERVICES

Shirlie Kimmel was promoted to chief operations officer of Atarus Professional Personnel Inc. in Virginia Beach. She has been in the staffing industry for seven years and was the founder and president of Medical Temps Inc., a temporary placement agency which closed last year in Virginia Beach.

TRANSPORTATION

Grace G. Routten was appointed the newest commissioner for the Peninsula Transportation District Commission. She represents the city of Hampton and replaces former Hampton City Councilman Baxter E. Simmons. She will serve a two-year term. Routten is the owner and operator of Wythe Hardware in Hampton.

Also, Allison Hedgepeth LeCuyer recently filled the vacant position of special projects manager for the Peninsula Transportation District Commission. Her primary duties include transit demand management, legislative affairs and liaison to the Hampton Roads Public Transportation Alliance. Prior to this, she was a grant writer for An Achievable Dream Inc., a non-profit agency. She was also a congressional aide to the 2nd District U.S. Rep. Herbert H. Bateman.
