Most of Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge will close to visitors from Dec. 1 to March 1 to protect migratory birds as they feed and rest during the winter months. Only the northern mile and a half of the refuge (including the visitors center and several trails) and the refuge's five miles of beach will remain open for hiking, biking and wildlife observation.
A headline in The Beacon on Nov. 19 indicated the entire refuge would close.
HDR Engineering Inc. has been responsible for designing the overall Atlantic Avenue streetscape package since Phase Three of the project.
