DEE CABLE CO-CHAIRMAN OF THE HOLLY FESTIVAL OF TREES

Dee Cable is the co-chairman of this year's Holly Festival of Trees, which benefits the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters.

This is Cable's second year as co-chairman. She also co-chaired last year's event, which raised in the neighborhood of $55,000 for the hospital.

The event is sponsored by the Norfolk City Union of The King's Daughters. Cable is also president of the union's Unity Circle.

Because of all the planning that goes into the festival, Christmas has been on Cable's mind for most of the year. She and her co-chair, Elizabeth Heil, started planning this year's event last January.

``It's pretty much year round,'' she said. ``It keeps me very busy, but I wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it.''

The theme of this year's festival is ``We Launch the Magical Season,'' with the emphasis on SEA because of the festival's new site - Nauticus.

A family event, the festival features lavishly decorated trees, a Gingerbread Village, children's activities and visits with Santa, in addition to a Holly Hoedown, The Gala and Auction, and Breakfast with Santa.

This is the schedule of events:

Saturday, 8 to 11 p.m., Holly Hoedown, featuring The Mann Sisters and Johnny Sinclair, at the Boathouse. Tickets (available through Ticketmaster), $10.

Friday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m., The Gala and Auction, where trees, houses for the Gingerbread Village, wreaths, and gifts will be auctioned, at Nauticus. Tickets, $35 in advance, $40 at the door.

Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and 3, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Festival, at Nauticus. Tickets, $2 for children 3 to 12; $3 for children over 12 and adults, $8 for families.

Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2, 8:30 to 10 a.m., Breakfast with Santa, at Nauticus. Tickets (which also includes admission into the festival), $7 for children, $8 for adults. (Reservations required.)

If you could trade places for just one day with anyone in the world, who would it be and why? A surgeon. I would have loved to have been a doctor and I'd like to experience the healing process first-hand.

Biggest accomplishment: My family.

Most embarrassing moment: We had dinner guests. I was carrying a chocolate pie to the table for dessert, when my arm bumped a chair. The pie hit our friend Tom right in the back of the head. Fortunately, they were very good friends.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I'd be tall and thin.
