TRAFFIC ROUTES AT WATERVIEW CHANGE MONDAY

A new traffic pattern at the east end of the Churchland Bridge will be effective Monday morning, when temporary barriers will be installed in an experiment aimed at reducing through traffic in Waterview.

Motorists on High Street will be unable to turn into Waterview at the intersection of Shenandoah, Grayson and Orange streets and drivers leaving Waterview will be unable to turn left onto High Street.

Motorists entering Waterview from High Street will have to turn onto Western Branch Boulevard and use Patrick Street, Willett Drive and Rockbridge Road to enter the subdivision.

Through traffic will be directed to Rodman Avenue.

The installation of temporary barriers is a compromise with residents who have pressured City Council to remove the Caroline Avenue causeway, which would block Waterview from King Street.

City Traffic Engineer Richard ``Red'' McDaniel said barriers will be erected at each intersection and that signs have been installed to direct motorists.

``We will do traffic counts on the streets to see what difference the new patterns make,'' McDaniel said. ``Then we will make a decision on whether to make the new pattern permanent. by CNB
