CHURCHLAND'S OTIS JONES IS THE CITY'S TOP PLAYER

TWO-WAY STAR Otis Jones, who steered Churchland to the city championship this year and a No. 9 team ranking in South Hampton Roads, heads the 1995 All-Portsmouth football team.

The squad was picked by the coaches of the schools and Currents.

Churchland grabbed 11 of the 25 positions on the first unit, placing 7 on offense and 4 on defense. Norcom landed 8, 4 on offense and 4 on defense. Wilson had 6, 2 on offense and 4 on defense.

The team includes 14 seniors, 8 juniors and 3 sophomores.

Jones, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound senior, was chosen as the quarterback and as a defensive back. He was a second-team selection last year as a defensive back. Norcom's Rudy Howard was the city's MVP last year.

Two other players were two-way selections - Churchland's Tee Styles (at offensive tackle and linebacker) and Wilson's Rahn Sykes (at tight end and defensive back). Both are juniors.

The All-City has two repeaters on offense, both from Churchland. Derrick Brown was picked as the center and David Tynch as the punter. They are seniors.

Defensively, Wilson linebacker Stephen White was the only holdover. He is a senior.

Two players were accorded honors on opposite sides of the football from where they excelled a year ago. Norcom tackle Jermaine Bullock, a senior, was picked on the first team on offense and second team on defense. He won defensive laurels and was a second-team offensive selection last year. Churchland's Sheldon Barnes, also a senior, was picked as a first-team down lineman on defense and as a second-team guard on offense. Last year he was a first-team pick as an offensive tackle.

Also picked on offense from Churchland were running backs Termaine Sessoms and Aaron Bailey and guard Kenny Lokie. Sessoms, a senior, was a second-team pick last year. Bailey is a senior and Lokie is only a sophomore.

The Truckers also placed senior Jermaine Turner on defense at end. Many regarded Turner as the city's best defensive player.

In addition to Bullock, Norcom had first-team offensive performers in wide receiver Lutrell Chavis, guard Kevin Coles and running back Briheim Rice. Coles is a senior and Chavis and Rice are juniors.

The Greyhounds' four defensive selections were end Ramon Whitfield, down lineman Shawn Sparks, linebacker Juguana Madison and back Leroy Coker. All are seniors except Madison, a junior.

Wilson's Sykes was joined by teammate Phillip James on the offensive unit. James, a sophomore, was picked as a wide receiver.

Defensively, in addition to White and Sykes, the Presidents placed down lineman Kevin Riddick and punter Paul Connolly. Riddick is a junior and Connolly is a sophomore.

The second team included 11 from Churchland, 9 from Wilson and 6 from Norcom. The Truckers had 5 on offense, 6 on defense. The Presidents had 5 on offense, 4 on defense. The Greyhounds had 3 on offense, 3 on defense.

The 26-player No. 2 unit has 14 seniors, 5 juniors, 6 sophomores and 1 freshman. MEMO: The annual All-Southeastern District football team, picked by the

coaches of the eight schools in the conference, will be announced in the

Friday, Dec. 1 Currents and Clipper.
