EDWARD M. TRICE

Edward Milton Trice, 86, widower of Bernice Wingo Trice, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 1995.

He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Trice Lowery of Chesapeake; one sister, Ruth Trice Horton of Urbanna; two granddaughters, Sterling Simpson of Drewryville and Samantha Simpson of Chesapeake; two nieces; and one great-niece.

Mr. Trice was a native of Middlesex County and the son of Allie Churchill and Susie Webb Trice. He graduated from the College of William and Mary with a bachelor of arts degree in 1930. During his time as a student, he was a member of the Philomathaen Varsity Club and president of the College Student class at Williamsburg Baptist Church and a member of The Executive Committee of The Order of White Jacket. He graduated with a master's degree in education from the University of Maryland in 1949. Mr. Trice spent 40 years in the Southampton County Education System retiring as division superintendent of schools in 1970. He was president of Southampton Education Association, president of District B, Virginia Education Association, a member of Virginia Education Association Board of Directors and an organizer of Franklin-Southampton County Retired Teachers Association. He had served as member and chairman of Walter Cecil Rawls Regional Library, was on the Western Tidewater Mental Health Association Board and was chairman of Southampton County Selective Service Board. Mr. Trice was a member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, where he had served as superintendent of Sunday School, deacon, Sunday School teacher, clerk and treasurer for many years. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of Petersburg Baptist Association.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in Owen Funeral Home, Jarratt. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Thomas Memorial Baptist Church, Drewryville. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. in Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery, Churchview, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Thomas Memorial Baptist Church.
