WILLIAM W. PHILLIPS

William Wirt Phillips, 81, died Nov. 21, 1995, in Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Phillips was born in Roselle Park, N.J., and was the son of the late Edward Jaffray and Jenny Burns Phillips. He lived in Wachapreague for 22 years. He was a member of the National Society of Chartered Life Underwriters, and a retired captain in the U.S. Air Force. He was president of Pension Planning Consultants of Princeton, N.J., a member of the Wachapreague Vol. Fire Department for 22 years and a member of Orpheus Lodge No. 137 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Phillips was the great-grandson of Dr. William Wirt Phillips, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in New York City.

Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn Jarmuth Phillips; two sons, Charles Edward Phillips of Accomac, Va., and William Jaffray Phillips of Salisbury, Md.; three sisters, Frances Phillips Gilbert of Pineville, Pa., Marjorie Phillips White of Onley, Va., and Rita Phillips Skarsten of Plattsburg, N.Y.; four grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; and 12 great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Phillips was predeceased by a sister, Marion Phillips Robinson of Belle Haven, Va., and a brother, James Phillips.

A memorial service will be conducted from the Powelton Presbyterian Church in Wachapreague at 2 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. James Keezel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wachapreague Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 214, Wachapreague, Va. 23480, or the Powelton Presbyterian Church, c/o Francis Waters, Wachapreague, Va. 23480. Arrangements by Williams Onancock Funeral Home.
