JOSEPH F. MELLINGS

Joseph Frederick Mellings, 72, of the 5100 block of Sharon Drive, died in his residence on Nov. 21, 1995.

Mr. Mellings was born in Tredegar, South Wales, Great Britain. He was a veteran of the British Army, Royal Corps of Signals for 5 1/2 years. He was a member of Operation Torch Campaign in North Africa, the Sicilian, Italian and Greek campaigns all during World War II. Following the war, he was an air traffic controller for Bristol Airplane Co.

After immigrating to the United States in September 1950, he became plant engineer of St. Joseph's Hospital in Towson, Md. and went on to retire as plant engineer at DePaul Hospital, Norfolk, in 1985.

He was a member of Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge (NU)116 in Towson, Md., where he was raised to master mason. He was an Episcopalian.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Mellings; a daughter, Jane Mellings Filz and husband, David, of Virginia Beach; one son, Jeffrey Frederick Mellings of Chesapeake; his mother, Margaret Mary Mellings of Virginia Beach; a sister, Nancy Mellings Waite and husband, Sidney, of Reisterstown, Md.; and twin granddaughters, Julia and Lindsey Filz of Virginia Beach.

A Masonic funeral service will be held Friday, Nov. 24, 1995, at 2 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Memorial donations should be made to the Scholarship Fund at Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge, 507 W. Chesapeake Ave., Towson, Md. 21204.
