FLEM S. REED

Flem Sampson Reed, 66, of the 300 block of Beacon Road, died Nov. 22, 1995, in a Portsmouth hospital.

He was a native of Big Creek, Ky., and was retired from the U.S. Navy and was also a retired machinist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Reed, and his wife, Thelma Reed.

He is survived by his mother, Rachael Lowe Carey of West Virginia; two daughters, Marcia Thompson of Chesapeake and Lynn Phillips of Charleston, S.C.; five sons, Sam Reed of Cherokee, N.C., Wayne Reed of Chesapeake, Marty Reed of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Glen Reed of Anchorage, Alaska, and Steven Reed of Chesapeake; sister, Emma Reed of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; and a host of family in Kentucky and West Virginia.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by Chaplain Beverly Roddy. Burial is in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
