Beginning Monday, motorist traffic will shift into the new southbound N.C. 168 lanes between South Mills and Survey roads.
There will be one lane of traffic in each direction while construction continues on the northbound lanes for about six months, a Department of Transportation official said Wednesday.
The three miles of widened highway should be open to traffic by Memorial Day, said Tommy Brite, the resident engineer.
The remaining stretch of two-laned N.C. 168 is scheduled for expansion beginning next year, he said. by CNB
