The school privatization experiment in Baltimore is over - at least for now.
More than halfway through one of the nation's largest experiments in school privatization, the city terminated what's left of a five-year contract with Education Alternatives, Inc., a company hired to run nine city schools.
Schools Superintendent Walter Amprey blamed the city's budget deficit for the decision.
But teachers' union president Irene Dandridge said the experiment failed because the company didn't improve student grades.
