JOHN G. BABASHANIAN SR.

Col. John G. Babashanian Sr., 78, of the 5200 block of Lake Shore Drive, died Nov. 22, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.

Col. Babashanian was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and also retired from the City of Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court after 10 years. He was a native of Washington, D.C., and a member of Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel. He was also a member of Eagle Haven Men's Golf Assn., Tidewater Retired Officer's Assn., 7th Marine ROC Assn., Marine Corps Intelligence Assn. He was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph's High School and Loyola College, both in Baltimore, Md. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, American Campaign Medal, Legion of Merit, Presidential Unit Citation Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations' Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry.

Survivors include his wife, Ann M. Babashanian; two daughters, Teresa Williams of Portsmouth, and Kathy Poindexter of Virginia Beach; five sons, John G. Babashanian Jr. of Chesapeake, Michael J. Babashanian of Norfolk, Mark R. Babashanian of Chesapeake, David A. Babashanian and Gary S. Babashanian, both of Virginia Beach; one sister, Elizabeth Babashanian of Virginia Beach; 10 grandchildren, Lindsey Babashanian, John Babashanian III, Lauren Babashanian, David Williams, Michelle Poindexter, Kevin Poindexter, Christine Babashanian, Paul Babashanian, Claire Babashanian and Maggie Babashanian, all of Hampton Roads.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel by Father Edward L. Richardson. Burial with full military honors will be in Quantico National Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be sent to one's favorite charity.
