JOHN R. KIRBY

Lt. Cmdr. John Robert Kirby, U.S. Navy (Ret.), of the 1100 block of Luke Drive, died Nov. 22, 1995, in Norfolk.

Lt. Cmdr. Kirby served the U.S. Navy for 30 years. He was a native of Boomer, W.Va., and attended Kempsville Baptist Church. He was also a member of Amos (NU)226 Masonic Lodge, Severna Park, Md., Scottish Rite Bodies, Norfolk, Khedive Temple of the Shrine, Westminister Chapter (NU)99 O.E.S., where he was a past patron, Fleet Reserve Association, Branch (NU)60, TROA Retired Officers Association, D.A.V. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Legg Kirby; three sons, Robert Scott Kirby of Orange County, Calif., John William Kirby of Bellingham, Wash., and Forrest Brooks Kirby of Virginia Beach; one sister, Helen F. Campbell of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Kelly J. Burris. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. An Eastern Star service will follow the funeral service at the funeral home.
