JONAH REID

Jonah Reid, 72, of the 2100 block of Des Moines Ave., died Nov. 23, 1995, in his home.

He was a native of Suffolk and retired as a car rider operator with Norfolk and Western Railroad with 30 years of service. He was a member, vice chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday school teacher for 30 years at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn M. Reid; one stepdaughter, Patricia Martin Murphy of Chesapeake; one son, Aldwyn C. Reid of Rhode Island; two stepsons, Harvey E. Martin Jr. of Virginia Beach and Reuben M. Martin of Massachusetts; his mother, Rebecca Reid of Suffolk; three sisters, Deborah Ricks of Portsmouth, Clara Reid of Norfolk, and Vivian Jubray of Suffolk; six brothers, Roy Reid and Allen Reid, both of Suffolk, Andrew Reid of Washington, D.C., Calvin Reid of New York City, Fulcher Reid of Chesapeake, and Beverly Skeeter of Baltimore; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church's building fund.
