ADOLPHUS D. MCWILLIAMS

Adolphus Dodson McWilliams, 88, of the 1100 block of Merrimac Ave., died Nov. 24, 1995, in Norfolk Community Hospital.

He was a retired letter carrier and window clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, where he worked for 30 years. Mr. McWilliams was a Norfolk native and the son of the late Greene and Lucy Plummer McWilliams. He was the widower of his devoted wife, Cora V. McWilliams, and he was preceded in death by a sister, Pear Lee McWilliams. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street. Mr. McWilliams was a Navy veteran, and during World War II he was a proud member of the Shore Patrol. He was also a member of the New Deal Bridge Club.

He is survived by an adopted son, Wilbur Sumner, and his wife, Mary L. Sumner, and their children, Erik, Keisha, Tracey, Kenya and Victoria. He will also be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law, Marie Sumner, Maybell Haynes, Annie Brinkley and Jean Joyner; a cousin, Betty Gorganus; nephews, Dempsey Sumner and Irvin Brinkley Jr.; and goddaughter, Alice Ferguson.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday by Dr. Robert G. Murray in First Baptist Church, 418 Bute St. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. Viewing will be Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Home. The body will be placed in the church at 12:30 p.m. Monday. The family will be at his residence. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
