CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

PORTSMOUTH

About 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, an employee for Designs Inc. in the 4200 block of Portsmouth Blvd. took the trash out. As he walked back into the store to get more trash, he was followed in by a subject who claimed to have a gun.

The suspect ordered the employee to not turn around and to give up whatever money he had.

The suspect then ordered the victim to lie on the floor. As the victim complied, the suspect pushed him and then fled out the back door.

The victim was able to turn and catch a glimpse of the fleeing suspect. He was described as being dressed in blue jeans and a black hooded sweat shirt.

On Thursday, Nov. 2, about 11 p.m., police were called to the 1700 block of Palmer St. on a report of a woman being shot. Officers found Paulette Moore, 40, at a back door with a gunshot wound to the head.

Investigators believe she was shot while in the vacant house and was left to die. She was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she is recovering.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Wednesday, Nov. 1, about 1 a.m., a 30-year-old woman was awakened by an intruder who had come into the bedroom of her home on Chapel Lake Drive in Chapel Lake Apartments.

When the man attacked and attempted to sexually assault her, she screamed and fought back.

The suspect fled.

The assailant is described as black, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 6 feet 1, with a medium build and short black hair. He may have a slight mustache or beard. He was wearing faded blue jeans, a white shirt and a jean jacket.

SUFFOLK

On Nov. 16, about 4 p.m., Ervin Williams, 85, was approached from behind at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant by a suspect who tried to steal his wallet from his back pocket.

Williams grabbed the suspect in a headlock and pulled him to the pavement.

The suspect then got up and fled. He is described as black, about 5 feet 11, with black hair, a narrow face, a knotty beard and pleats in his hair. The suspect was driving a vehicle described as a gray Honda. ILLUSTRATION: Drawing
