ARTHUR J. HARPER

Arthur J. Harper, of the 1000 block of Fairlawn Ave., died Nov. 26, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.

Mr. Harper, a retired U.S. Postal manager, worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years. He had been retired for 14 years. He was a native of Essex, N.C., and a member of St. Johns's A.M.E., Norfolk, where he was a former steward. He was a member of Hiawatha Social and Beneficial Club and The Retired Men's Leisure Club of Tidewater. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Marguerite L. Harper of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Marguerite H. Scott of Apex, N.C., Carol D. Harper of Columbia, S.C.; one son-in-law, Howard Scott; five sisters, Mellesenah Young, Odelia Harrison, Pearl Harper, Camilla Wheelock, all of Norfolk, and Tola Epperson of Atlanta; one brother, the Rev. Nathanial W. Harper of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren, Ronald H. Scott and Kim M. Scott, both of Apex; nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Tola B. Harper and Arthur Harper.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon Thursday in St. John's A.M.E. Church, Bute St., Norfolk, by the Rev. I.W. Knight Sr. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the home for the procession to the church. Hale Funeral Home in charge.
