Alma Marie Foster, a resident of Harrisonburg, died Nov. 27, 1995, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
A daughter of the late James Ernest and Vera Jane Baine of Blackstone, she was born on February 19, 1911, in Nottaway County and was raised in Blackstone, Va.
Mrs. Foster was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Harrisonburg, a lifelong member of the United Methodist Women, a member of the Unity Class of Otterbein Church, and a member of the Lanier Garden Club.
After spending much of her life in the Tidewater area, she moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1978, first living in New Market, then Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Emmitt Eccard Jr. of Otterbein United Methodist Church and Dr. E. Thomas Murphy Jr. of Asbury United Methodist Church conducting the service. Interment will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. The casket will be closed.
The members of the family will receive friends at the Murphy residence, 250 Franklin St., Harrisonburg at any time.
On Sept. 30, 1939, she married John Vernon (Pete) Foster who preceded her in death March 1, 1994.
Mrs. Foster is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Dreanna Foster Murphy; her son-in-law, Dr. E. Thomas Murphy Jr. of Harrisonburg; three grandchildren, Lorretta Marie Murphy and John Foster Murphy of Harrisonburg; E. Thomas Murphy III of Bridgewater; two sisters, Edith Williams of Portsmouth, Va., and Bertha Spencer of Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Family Services of Virginia, 3900 West Broad St., Richmond, Va. 23230, or Otterbein United Methodist Church of Harrisonburg, in her memory.
