A sharper-than-expected decline in October existing-home sales is being viewed only as a pause after strong sales earlier this year. The 1.9 percent October decline to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.070 million units is the first fall since April and follows a 0.7 percent rise in September sales. Sales in October fell in all regions, although the overall sales pace was 6.5 percent above the October 1994 rate of 3.82 million units. Sales fell the most in the South, slipping 2.6 percent. They also fell 1.9 percent in the Midwest, 1.6 percent in the Northeast and 1.1 percent in the West. (Associated Press)
