The Navy has transferred the research vessel Pacific Escort to the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. The shipyard in Portsmouth will charter the 210-foot vessel to various governmental organizations for research projects. Some of the ships capabilities include weapons research, law enforcement operations, environmental research and oil spill crisis management. Operated by a crew of up to 10 people, the vessel has three labs and an extensive array of electronic equipment. It can accommodate up to 35 additional personnel working on a project. by CNB
