Firefighters battled two house fires - including one that killed a pet cat - and a woods fire over the Thanksgiving holiday.
A fire Thursday about 12:24 p.m. in the 2600 block of Robin Hood Trail damaged a one-story house, said Lt. Jeff Messinger, Fire Department spokesman. The fire was caused by material being too close to a wood stove, he said.
A fire Saturday about 10:09 p.m. heavily damaged a two-story house in the 200 block of Raleigh Ave. The blaze started when an electric curling iron ignited a substance. No one was home, but the family's cat was found dead inside the house.
A woods fire Sunday afternoon burned about 15 acres of young pine trees in the 2500 block of Whaleyville Boulevard. The fire is under investigation.
