Columnist Frank Rich made a vicious attack on the so-called religious right (Perspectives, Nov. 7) because members did not agree with his assessment of Colin Powell.
I do not endorse the stridency sometimes employed by those folk. However, I do endorse their goal of restoring principle and moral decency in America. In other words, undoing the follies of 40 years of misguided economic and social philosophies. After having spent about $6 trillion in support of ``War on Poverty'' ideas, the social and moral structure of our society is much worse off.
The religious right has realized that any corrupt society cannot sustain itself. So why shouldn't those concerned people be applauded in their efforts to move men and women having similar concerns into positions of influence and power to work toward reinstating the values that will sustain our country?
