Martha Tolson Steen, 88, died late Monday afternoon, Nov. 27, 1995, in her residence after a long illness.
Born in Buxton, Dec. 19, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Willie Gardner and Charlotte Frances Tolson. She was the widow of Emmanuel Waverly ``Mannie'' Steen, who died in 1958.
Surviving are a daughter, Frances S. Payne of Gull Rock; a brother, Leston Tolson of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Fannie Williams of Buxton, Anges Crankshaw of Lake Placid, Fla., and Margaret Hendricks of Chesapeake; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today in the family plot in Brooks Cemetery, Gull Rock Community, Route 1, Engelhard, Hyde County. The Rev. L.R. Sparrow will officiate. Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter, is in charge.
