John W. Sample Sr., 74, of the 700 block of Nottingham Drive, died Nov. 27, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mr. Sample, a retired foreman supervisor, worked C&P Telephone of Maryland. He was a native of Delmar, Del., and a member of Kings Grant Presbyterian Church. He was a decorated naval veteran of World War II and a member of Centennial Masonic Lodge (NU)221 in Salisbury, Md., Telephone Pioneers of America, and Cypress Point Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Esther D. Sample; two daughters, Linda S. Kamarek of Virginia Beach, Nancy S. Arnost of Encino, Calif.; a son, John W. Sample Jr. of Salisbury; four sisters, Frances Mortimer of Westminster, Md., Elizabeth Piermont of Brook Haven, Pa., Kathryn Sample of Parkville, Md., Ella B. Veditz of Westminster; a brother, Frank Sample of Delmar; seven grandchildren, Bill, Stephen, Jill, John III, Christopher, Tommy and Jenna.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Kings Grant Presbyterian Church by Dr. Brian K. Dill. Burial will be private at a later date. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the residence, 716 Nottingham Drive, Virginia Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Kings Grant Presbyterian Church, 745 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Lynnhaven Chapel, in charge.
