MARINE MISSING ON THE CARRIER AMERICA

A Marine lance corporal assigned to the carrier America has been missing from the ship since Saturday, the Navy reported Tuesday.

Zachary R. Mayo was reported missing when he failed to show up for routine morning muster.

Mayo was last seen about 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

Mayo was assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron Three, a Marine air wing.

In a press release, the Navy reported that an all-hands search conducted Saturday revealed nothing.

Four Navy aircraft and two Navy ships were dispatched to search the path of the carrier over the past 24 hours.

The searches were called off Monday.

An investigation is continuing.
