The death of a 25-year-old man found Tuesday morning on 26th Street is being investigated by police as a homicide.
Eric D. Toussaint of the 500 block of 29th St. was found at about 10:30 a.m. lying against the outside wall of a store in the 600 block of 26th St. He had suffered a gunshot wound.
Toussaint died Tuesday afternoon at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Bobby Kipper, spokesman for the Newport News Police Department, said investigators have made no arrests and have no suspects.
Kipper said police are looking for a vehicle that was seen leaving the scene. He described the car as a light blue or pale green, four-door Oldsmobile.
Two black males are believed to have been in the car, Kipper said.
