HOLIDAY PARADE IN GREAT BRIDGE TONIGHT WILL DETOUR SOME TRAFFIC

The city's official Christmas tree will be lighted at 6 p.m. today in a ceremony at City Hall.

Mayor William E. Ward and members of City Council will kick off the holiday season with a program that includes performances by the chorus of Great Bridge Middle School North and the Spectrum Puppets.

A holiday parade, sponsored by the Great Bridge Jaycees, will begin at 7 p.m. at Colon Hall Stadium on Mount Pleasant Road and proceed along Mount Pleasant Road to Battlefield Boulevard. From Battlefield Boulevard the parade will continue to Cedar Road to Polly Miller Drive and end at the Chesapeake Civic Center.

The following streets will be closed or have limited access from 6:30 p.m. until approximately 9 p.m.

Battlefield Boulevard - North- and southbound traffic heading to Great Bridge should use the Great Bridge Bypass.

Cedar Road - Traffic going north to Battlefield Boulevard should detour via Holt Drive and Albemarle; southbound traffic headed to Battlefield should detour via Briarfield Drive, Britwell Drive and Johnstown Road.

Mount Pleasant Road - Through traffic that is northbound on Battlefield or eastbound on Mount Pleasant Road should use Great Bridge Bypass; northwest or southeast traffic will be detoured via Battlefield and Ashley Road until approximately 8:30 p.m.; traffic using Mount Pleasant Road heading to the 200 block of Chesapeake Colony or Chesapeake Colony Estates will be detoured to Ashley Road; Mount Pleasant Road to Stadium Drive traffic will be allowed to proceed as directed by Chesapeake police.
