Tidewater Regional Transit (TRT) will sponsor a celebration in honor of the 40th anniversary of Rosa Parks' fight for civil rights at 11 a.m. Friday in TRT's lobby at 1500 Monticello Ave.
To pay tribute and commemorate the historic day, TRT is reducing its transit fare on all services to 50 cents.
On Dec. 1, 1955, Rosa Parks refused to move to the back of the bus in Montgomery, Ala. Her determination and refusal to give up her seat on the bus helped bring about the U.S. Supreme Court ruling declaring bus segregation to be illegal.
Speakers will include representatives of the NAACP, Urban League, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University and Tidewater Metro Ministries Association. The public is invited. For more information, call 640-6295. by CNB
