MAPP TO APPEAR AT TWO BOOK SIGNINGS

Alf J. Mapp Jr., a professor emeritus of the department of English at Old Dominion University and a prize-winning historian, will autograph his new historic novel, ``Bed of Honor,'' at two book-signings in Portsmouth in December.

``Bed of Honor,'' Mapp''s first work of fiction, centers on Robert E. Lee's visit to Portsmouth after the Civil War and features appearances of other prominent visitors. The story winds through the South to New Orleans and throughout Virginia, as well as Paris, Rome and Washington.

The story has received rave reviews from authors such as Howard Owen, author of ``Littlejohn'' and ``Fat Lightning;'' George Garrett, author of ``Death of the Fox'' and ``The Wedding Cake in the Middle of the Road;'' and Henry Taylor, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of ``The Flying Change.''

Mapp will be at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum, 2 High St., from 2 to 5 p.m. Dec. 10 and at Pfeiffer's Books, Cards and Fine Wines, 434 High St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 16.

Although the book will not be released until early in the new year, copies will be available for purchase at both autograph parties. by CNB
