SUNDAY
FESTIVE FEASTS LIKE the Groaning Board Dinners serve up tasty holiday additions in Colonial Williamsburg. The event is so named because the tables are said to ``groan beneath the weight of the food.'' Along with the mountainous menu the evening offers traditional entertainment by the Colonial Dancers, members of the Fife and Drum Corps and tavern balladeers. Dinners are scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 23 and 29 at the Williamsburg Lodge. Cost: $41.50 per person. (800) HISTORY.
Looking for a less-caloric celebration? We've got a sleighful of events in the Holiday Calendar on Page ... inside.

WEEKEND
CALYPSO-POP TUNES. Motley Caribbean costumes. Wildly gyrating gods and goddesses. And a risky first love.
The hit musical ``Once on This Island,'' Broadway's answer to ``The Little Mermaid,'' opens at 8 tonight at Norfolk's Wells Theater. Produced by Virginia Stage Company, the fast-paced 90-minute show features stars and a director/choreographer from the original cast.
An enchanting fable told through song, dance and narration by the villagers, ``Island'' is the story of a young peasant girl who falls hard for a rich city boy. It's a whimsical stage show that electrifies - like the thunderbolts cracking in the island storm scenes.
``Island'' continues through Dec. 17 with daily performances, except Mondays. The Wells is at Monticello Avenue and Tazewell Street. Tickets are $11 to $32; discounts available. Call the box office at 627-1234.
