The Dare County Tourism Board has approved six grants totaling $24,370 for the Tourism Assistance Grant Program. The program provides assistance to Dare County organizations for projects and events to attract visitors to the Outer Banks.
Grants include $5,000 to the Visually Impaired Persons Fishing Tournament, Inc., for a brochure in Braille on the Outer Banks; $2,870 to the North Carolina Aquarium Society for the Aquarium's 20th Anniversary celebration; $10,000 to the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum for a promotional package for the museum; $2,500 to the First Flight Society for the 92nd Anniversary Commemoration of the Wright Brothers First Flight; $2,000 to the Hatteras Island Business Association for the Hatteras Island Small Boat Tournament, and $2,000 to the Hatteras Village Civic Association for the Hatteras Village Offshore Open Tournament.
The next application for the tourism assistance program will be April 1 through April 30 for projects which will take place between June 1 and Dec. 1.
