ATLANTIC SHORES IS STRONG

There may be only 150 students in grades 9 through 12 at Atlantic Shores, but there's nothing small about the Seahawks' aspirations in basketball. Atlantic Shores, which does not belong to a league, went 24-9 last winter under new head coach Mark Phelps and appears to be the class of the area's private schools again this season.

ATLANTIC SHORES

Coach: Mark Phelps (2nd year, 24-9).

Last season: 24-9 as an independent.

Impact players: Damon Thornton, 6-7 senior forward; Kenny Inge, 6-8 senior forward.

Top newcomers: Terrance Jones, 5-10 senior guard; Ernest Pickens, 6-3 junior forward.

Outlook: Four starters are back led by Division I prospects Thornton and Inge, who combined for 30 points, 20 rebounds and 6 blocks a game. Guards Joey Higginbotham and Chris Jackson combined fo 74 3-pointers. Jones, a transfer from Rock, will have an impact on the ballhandling and defense.
