LAWRENCE C. TALLEY

Lawrence C. Talley, 83, of Elk Avenue, passed away in his home, and went on to be with the Lord on Friday, Dec. 1, 1995.

He was a native of Rock Hill, S.C., where he was a member of St. John's Methodist Church. Lawrence was retired from the Naval Air Station in 1969, with 34 years of service. He served with the U.S. Marine Aviation in Central Amercia during the 1930s. He was an elder in Third Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, and a member of Corinthian (NU)266 Masonic Lodge for 47 years, Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies, John Walter Royal Arch Chapter, the 35th Masonic Funeral Committee and Khedive Temple.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Minnie Brown Talley, originally of York, S.C.; one son, Kenneth L. Talley of Chesapeake; two daughters, Betty T. Stevens and Esther T. Ferris of Virginia Beach; one brother, Heyward Talley of Lake Norman, N.C.; one sister, Bleeka Thompson of Graham, N.C.; beloved grandchildren, Neil Stevens, Michael Ferris, Craig Talley, Clare Stevens, Beth Ferris, Matthew Stevens and Cathy Talley, all of the Tidewater area, and Cary Stevens of Richmond, Va.

A visitation will be held today from 7 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norview Avenue Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Third Presbyterian Church, 8065 Carlton St., Norfolk, by the Rev. Steven Cronn. A visitation will follow in the church social hall. Burial will be in Laurelwood Cemetery, Rock Hill, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic rites will be performed by the Rock Hill Masonic Lodge (NU)111. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children in Greenville, S.C., or to the Sentara Hospice Program, Koger Center, Norfolk.
