Frederick F. Bennis

NORFOLK - Frederick Francis Bennis, 80, of Sheppard Avenue, died Nov. 29, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.

Mr. Bennis, a retired Lieutenant-Explosive Ordnance Disposal, was in the U.S. Navy for 31 years. He was also a retired counselor with SouthEastern Tidewater Opportunities Project and a retired inspector for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. Mr. Bennis, a native of Minneapolis, Minn., was the widower of Mrs. Olivia C. Bennis. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its social ministry, Father Kealey Council (NU)3548, Knights of Columbus, founding director of ``The Haven,'' member of Retired Officers Association, Naval Explosive Ordnance Association, and a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his children, Judith B. Reon of Sacramento, Calif., Thomas M. Bennis of Boston, Mass., Donald F. Bennis of Virginia Beach, Stephan A. Bennis of Virginia Beach, Elizabeth B. Bein of Zuni, Va.; two brothers, Earl Bennis and Lyle Bennis, both of Minneapolis; and 12 grandchildren.

A Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Holy Trinity Catholic Church by Father Lou Ruoff. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with full military honors. The family will have a visitation at the church Sunday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Prayers will be said at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Monday before the procession to the cemetery. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel is in charge.
