GRANTS AWARDED

Nearly $9,000 in grants from the Portmouth Schools Foundation have been awarded to 21 Portsmouth educators for innovative school projects.

The grants are given to support enriching educational projects, encourage creative and effective teaching, recognize and reward creative teachers, and provide a means of sharing successful projects with other teachers.

The 1995-96 Innovator Grant winners are Marsha Moye from Brighton Elementary; Ellen Bryant, Heather Moraitis, Gayle Bartlett, and Anne Fowler at Churchland Academy; Adelia Sword and Karen DiDomenico at Churchland Elementary.

Also, Sharon Smith at S.H. Clarke Academy; Michael Meeks and Fiona Nichols at Cradock Middle; Louise Jones for two separate projects at Douglass Park Elementary; and Marie Chavis, Jill Paraska and Rebecca Hinton at Hunt-Mapp Middle School.

And Cheri DiMunno at Simonsdale Elementary; Darlene Bright and Catherine Roberts at W.E. Waters Middle School; Evelyn Thomson, Glenda Jarman, and Thomas Smithwick at Woodrow Wilson High School; and Bob Wright in curriculum and instruction.

The mission of the Portsmouth Schools Foundation is to promote excellence in Portsmouth's public schools.

The foundation also sponsors the Access program, which assists high school seniors in pursuing a college education. The program provides assistance in gaining access to funds to students who are seriously interested in college, but are financially unable to attend.
