CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION: ***************************************************************** Mike McIlravy of Cox, a second-team All-Tidewater pick in football, is a sophomore. The team roster contained an error. Correction published Thursday, December 7, 1995 on page C6 of THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT. ***************************************************************** SENIORS DOMINATE THE FIRST TEAM SELECTIONS MAJETTE LEADS THE WAY AS ONE OF FIVE RETURNING PICKS; GREEN RUN PLACES 11 ON FIRST TEAM.

IF YOU DIDN'T get the chance to see any of the 1995 All-Beach District football players this fall, you goofed.

Of the 28 first-teamers, 21 are seniors.

But you might have seen a few of them last year, as five are first-team repeaters.

This year's squad is led by player of the year Mike Majette of Princess Anne. The tailback became South Hampton Roads all-time leading rusher this year, finishing his career with 4,500 total yards. The 6-foot, 200-pound Majette is the only offensive player to return to this year's first team. He finished the season as the area's top rusher, gaining 1,680 yards on 244 carries for a 6.9-yards-a-carry average.

Joining Majette as first-team repeaters are Alvin Wilson of Tallwood, Lamont Miller of Bayside, Cedric Warren of Green Run and Corey Fogle of First Colonial - all defensive players and all seniors.

Fogle led the area in punting for the second-straight year, finishing this season with a 36.14 average.

Much as it did all season, Beach champion Green Run led the balloting by the district's 10 coaches - placing 11 players on the first team.

Tallwood was second with six players.

Stallions coach Elisha ``Cadillac'' Harris was named by his peers as the coach of the year. Harris guided his team to an 11-0 start and its second-straight Eastern Region championship game - where the Stallions lost to Indian River.

Green Run linebacker Larry Jordan - a second-team member as a running back - was named the district's defensive player of the year.

Green Run teammate Edward Cuffee - in his first and final season as a starting quarterback - led the area in total offense. He finished first in passing with 1,438 yards and added 302 yards rushing for a total of 1,740. He threw 19 touchdown passes.

Joining Majette and Cuffee in the All-Beach backfield are running backs TaRon Anderson of Tallwood and Zebedee Clark of Kempsville. Anderson - only a sophomore - finished fifth among area rushers with 1,010 yards, but was first among scorers with 22 touchdowns. Anderson has rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his two varsity seasons and will be looking in two years to break Majette's area career record.

Clark, a junior, was fourth among area rushers - finishing with two more yards than Anderson.

The all-district wide receivers are Green Run senior Lanier Washington and First Colonial junior Steve Tyler. Tyler led the area in pass receptions with 50 for 587 yards three touchdowns and an 11.7 average. Washington had 20 catches for 459 yards, six TDs and a whopping 23.0 yard-per-catch average.

Beach first team tight end Waymond Favors of Tallwood was fifth among area receivers with 24 catches for 496 yards, two touchdowns and an impressive 20.7 average.

Salem place kicker Kevin Miller, only a sophomore, was second in the area in kick scoring with 39 points - 21 of them coming on seven field goals.

First-team linemen are tackles Ray Shupe and Troy Smith of Green Run and Amos Rawls III of Tallwood. Guards are Mike Carney of Ocean Lakes and Daryl Cherry of Green Run. Donald Stakes of Kempsville is the center.

Defensive first-teamers joining Jordan, Jiller, Wilson, Warren and Fogle are Green Run end Corey Cason; linemen David Hierholzer of Salem, Shupe and Rawls; linebacker Calvin Wilson of Tallwood; defensive backs Mike McIlravy of Cox, Plaxico Burress of Green Run and Curtis Sanders of Salem; and Washington as kick returner.
