Charles Edward Roper, 74, died Dec. 4, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Roper, a retired grocery store manager, was a native of Morganton, N.C. He was a member of Thalia United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Fleming ``Jo'' Roper; a daughter, Judith Roper, and her husband, Hank Haliasz, of Sugarland, Texas; two sisters, Louise and her husband, Harold Saunders, of Alexandria, Va., Inez and her husband, Herchel Kirby, of Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Linwood Roy Roper of Lenoir; three grandsons, Joseph Smith of Sugarland, Mark Smith of San Francisco, Calif., David and his wife, Maureen Smith, of Riverside, Calif.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, in Arlington National Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the following: American Lung Association, Thalia United Methodist Church, or to the Sentara Hospice Program. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
