RUFUS ROY MURPHY SR.

Rufus Roy Murphy Sr., age 78 of the 18000 block of Wakefield Road, died Dec. 2, 1995, at his residence. He was a native of Southampton Co., Va.

Mr. Murphy was a retired maintenance worker for the City of Hampton and a member of the Southampton AME Zion Church in Courtland, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Lois Ricks Murphy; five daughters, Jacqueline Adell Murphy-Bergeson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Linda LaVerne McClendon and Donna Marie Murphy, both of Wilmington, Del., Lois Lorraine Williams of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Elveria Annette Shepperson of Newport News; four sons, Maj. Rufus R. Murphy Jr. and Sgt. Kenneth D. Murphy, both of Newport News, Larry B. Murphy of Huntersville, N.C., Linwood Murphy of Wilmington; four sisters, Ethel Caldwell, Anne Gee, Dottie Rose Goodwyn and Eudora Cooper; 24 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1995, at 2 p.m. at the David Temple AME Zion Church, Courtland Va. Presiding clergy will be Dr. Lemuel Warren. Burial will be at the Southampton AME Zion Church cemetery, Courtland. Engram Funeral Home, Inc., Courtland, is in charge of the arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
