It happened with ``The Far Side'' and ``Bloom County.'' At the peak of their popularity, they were yanked into oblivion by their creators.

Now ``Calvin and Hobbes,'' arguably the most beloved comic strip ever, is ending a stellar run on Dec. 31.

We need your help finding a replacement. We've waded through a pile of possibilities and narrowed the candidates to three.

Read the sample strips on this page, then call Infoline and vote for your favorite: ``Mother Goose and Grimm,'' about a woman, a dog and a cat; ``Mutts,'' about a dog and a cat sans woman; or ``Bound and Gagged,'' about. .
