DESPITE DIFFICULT WINDS, SOME HAUL IN SPECKLED TROUT

Scattered speckled trout were landed by surfcasters along the northern beaches Tuesday, even though brisk easterly winds made fishing difficult. The best action was reported from sloughs north of Ramp 4 on the north side of Oregon Inlet.

A few striped bass were landed in the surf at various locations from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

South of Oregon Inlet, several stripers were beached on Pea Island. Both cut bait and artificial lures caught fish.

Good speckled trout fishing was reported along the beach north of Cape Point Monday afternoon. Speckled trout and albacore were landed along the beach south of Cape Point Tuesday. Green, soft-plastic lures produced the best results.

Lots of small speckled trout were taken late Monday and again Tuesday in the Frisco area.

Little action was reported from ocean piers along the northern beaches. Avalon Pier was the exception, where striped bass were landed Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

Blue water action was good Tuesday, with yellowfin tuna plentiful in the vicinity of ``the point,'' southeast of Oregon Inlet.

King mackerel fishing around the wrecks off Hatteras slowed appreciably.

Speckled trout fishing should improve as soon as the winds moderate.

The water temperature at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck was 53.5 degrees Tuesday. by CNB
