If the situation in Bosnia weren't so tragic and the prospect of sending Americans to their slaughter not so haunting, your article ``White House displays letters promising troops will be safe'' (Nov. 25) would have been almost funny.
Does Clinton think all he needs to do is proclaim ``it's in our country's best interest'' and wave a paper signed by a couple of thugs to get us to abandon our senses and offer up our fine servicemen like so many goats on the altar?
As for peacekeeping, what peace is there to keep? Peacekeeping is merely a buzzword used by Clinton, many of his predecessors and their respective bands of internationalists to get us involved where we don't belong.
Given Mr. Clinton's Freddy Krueger-style slashing of the Department of Defense, many would more easily believe this is really just a less obvious method he's hit upon for further reductions in personnel. Unfortunately for many of them, though, it will be a direct transfer from active duty to a national cemetery.
Many of our military experts have likened this to another Vietnam once things really get crankin'.
Of the 3 million mines in that region, only 1 million have been located, according to our defense experts. Sniper and artillery aside, this is a recipe for disaster.
We've already saddled our young with a tremendous national debt that hasn't shown any sign of dwindling (Republican promises notwithstanding). Now we are going to send them off to be maimed or killed to help bring about some phony New World Order.
