BOOKER T. WHITFIELD SR.

Booker T. Whitfield Sr., 86, of the 2600 block of Beachmont Ave., died Dec. 4, 1995, peacefully at his residence surrounded by family and loved ones.

Mr. Whitfield, a retired longshoreman, was a employed with the International Longshoremans Association Local 1248 for 34 years. He was a native of Kingston, N.C., and the son of Adolph and Minnie Cordell Whitfield. He was the widower of Esther Woods Whitfield, his loving wife of 48 years. He was a member of Woodland Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Juanita Delk of Norfolk; four sons, Charles Spears of Suffolk, Booker T. Whitfield Jr. and Clarence D. Whitfield, both of Virginia Beach, and Charlie A. Whitfield Sr. of Norfolk; and an adopted son, Matthew Jones also of Norfolk; a brother, Tim Whitfield of New York; 34 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Clayton Whitfield.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Woodland Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. Serafio Fontanilla. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Riddick Funeral Service. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The family will be at his residence. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
